Story behind the song
As one of my three daughters is getting married, I was inspired to right a song about my ordeal of having to give away one of my daughters.
Lyrics
It's a quarter past 12, sitting in my chair.
Running my hands and fingers, through my greying hair.
Pondering all the things my little girls have done,
Wondering if the things I taught really were enough.
(Chorus)
Father, do we have to give our little girls away
Its seems there is just so much I never got to say
I wish there was, I know there's not, any other way
But Father, Do we have to,
Oh Father, Do we really have to
Oh Father, do we have to give our little girls away
The Years have past, the day has come, how the time has flown.
Once Polly dolls with pigtails hung, now they are all grown.
A gift from You, oh Holy One, the truth is plain to see.
Without daddies and their little girls, where would this poor world be?
(Chorus)
Father, do we have to give our little girls away
Its seems there is just so I never got to say
I wish there was, I know there's not, any other way
But Father, Do we have to,
Oh Father, I know I have to,
Oh Father, I know I have to give my little girl away.
I'll give her all away for You.
Oh Father, do we have to give our little girls away
