Story behind the song
When I first wrote this song (many years ago), it was while I was out walking the Countryside in Prince Edward Island, and I had entitled it "Good Day (For Walkin')". When I went in to record it with some of the group I had been in, the producer and his assistant were adamant that a "take it easy" day was NOT one in which you were out walking, and pressured me to change it to a day for "doing nothing". Wish I hadn't changed it, but what's done is done. They didn't have the same kind of approach to a good day as I did ... go out and enjoy it. Sadly, the assistant died a few years later, in his early forties, I think. Perhaps more days out walking might have changed that ? Who knows ?
