Song 6 of The Cycle of Life
Artist picture
We are a group of people who enjoy songwriting and then recording the songs. We do it for fun.
The Overtone Gang is a group of people who enjoy songwriting and then recording the songs. The structure of the gang is flexible and people may participate on one CD and not on another. It's their choice. Each person is allowed to pursue their own projects and come back to join the gang. Egos get in the way of music so we try hard to eliminate the reasons for it. 7 different people have been involved in the first three CDs. The Cycle of Life CD included a lot more people (16 in total). Our CD "Relations" had only four people. On our latest CD, Earth, there were three of us, Melanie Broussard, Buddy Trotter and Danny Liggett. The gang has written and recorded songs for 8 CDs. These were recorded by ourselves (no record deal). We duplicate our own CDs, design and print out the booklet and put the jewel case together. We do it for fun.

Story behind the song
Life is full of choices, and each choice takes us on different path. These paths will lure us, without revealing the consequences of the choice. What seems to be the right thing to do often has devastating results. Mary Lee goes to college out of state, leaving Bo alone for long periods of time. Time and distance in a relationship creates tension and stress, which can lead to frustration and anger. The conflicting emotions of love and anger allow bitter words to flow. Some words are sharp enough to sever the bonds of even soul mates. Free of entanglements and frustration, Bo sees this as another phase of his life. Still young, with a job and lots of free time on his hands, Bo feels indestructible, almost like “Superman,” living a fast, restless life. As he reaches his early thirties, he starts to worry about getting old.
