Story behind the song
Originally, the idea was to write a nice and slow, clean song which was, in a way, a throwback to the 50s with several vocal harmonies and heavy dosages of reverb on the lead track. And that’s the way the track was conceived until it came time to write the drum part at which point, unsatisfied with traditional drum hits, we cut up and imported a drum loop and used various sound effects (string hits, guitar tuning, microphone manipulation) to fill out the sound. Point being, where the song began and where it ended up are two vastly different places. Though the easy going melody shines through during the verses and parts of the intermission, the rhythm section is what carries the tune throughout.
Lyrics
I found out God's shy
I've only seen him once
The mind he gave me says that's not enough
I'm not scared of time
It makes sense when it's up, it's up
How many times can I feel both loss and love?
Made a mistake
Got lost on the way
Threw away caution and saved the day
But I'm feeling new
All tangled in blue
You lead the Sun I'll chase the Moon
I'm not above lies
You can tell a blind man day is night
And make him confuse his sound with sight
I've been doing fine
I'm really okay inside of my mind
I've rearranged the space to make it mine
Made a mistake
Got lost on the way
Threw away caution and saved the day
But I'm feeling new
All tangled in blue
You lead the Sun I'll chase the Moon
Can you see the Sun from there?
Or is it the Moon?
Or something else that chases you?
Can you see the sky above?
A place where you can dream
A home for all your beliefs
Made a mistake
Got lost on the way
Threw away caution and saved the day
But I'm feeling new
All tangled in blue
You lead the Sun I'll chase the Moon
