Story behind the song
Miners often carried morphine tablets to take if injured and waiting to be evacuated. Those same tablets could be used to ease the pain of an inevitable death if a miner were trapped by a cave-in or explosion and had no realistic hope of being rescued. Song written by the late Utah Phillips. Performed by Anne Price and Steve Suffet live at the Peoples' Voice Cafe in New York City on March 24, 2012. Beth Kotkin adds some extra guitar accompaniment to Anne's and Steve's own guitar parts. For review and educational purposes only. Not to be copied or downloaded.
