James Sweatmon a native of the Washington, DC metro area is not new to the music scene; having been into music since the tender age of 3. His love of music spans from hip hop to classical with Beethoven being one of his favorite composers; hence his name The Ghetto Beethoven. It was attending church where G.B. discovered his love of hip hop. It was through hip hop music that he was able to receive the message of God, which resonates throughout his music. While naturally learning the genre of hip hop G.B. always sought to improve upon the lyrics and sounds of what he heard, leading to him having a holistic approach to his music; with him serving as the not only the writer of his lyrics but also serving as a producer and mixer of his music and other projects that he is working on. G.B. is also a pianist and many elements of his music are based upon improvisation. True to being a DC native, G.B. naturally has also been influenced by the world-famous Go-go music that his hometown is known for. His music is representative of the struggle and of speaks of the human experience. He is firm believer in speaking of the struggles that he has faced to arrive where he is now, instead of solely speaking on the present. His music also speaks truth to power that you can make it through any struggle with the right amount of faith and action. At the end of the day G.B. respects that God is the reason for it all. He is known to say, “People often become so distracted that they forget the reason why they are here.” G.B. firmly believes that you can give praise to the Most High and still be considered real. In his words, “There is nothing wrong with worshipping God, being into praise and still living life authentically.”
