We are a group of people who enjoy songwriting and then recording the songs. We do it for fun.
The Overtone Gang is a group of people who enjoy songwriting and then recording the songs. The structure of the gang is flexible and people may participate on one CD and not on another. It's their choice. Each person is allowed to pursue their own projects and come back to join the gang. Egos get in the way of music so we try hard to eliminate the reasons for it. 7 different people have been involved in the first three CDs. The Cycle of Life CD included a lot more people (16 in total). Our CD "Relations" had only four people. On our latest CD, Earth, there were three of us, Melanie Broussard, Buddy Trotter and Danny Liggett. The gang has written and recorded songs for 8 CDs. These were recorded by ourselves (no record deal). We duplicate our own CDs, design and print out the booklet and put the jewel case together. We do it for fun.

Story behind the song
Every now and then you need to take a step back and see where you are in your life. Danny spends a lot of time traveling and sometimes wonders “what the hell am I doing.”
Lyrics
Got off a plane one afternoon Out the next day yeah way too soon Home long enough just to repack my bags All this travel is getting to be a drag Eating alone never is much fun An empty room after dinner is done I miss my kids & I miss my wife Now ain't this one hell of a life Got to take step back And See where I am Where I'm going Where I've been Too much running All over the place Living my life At too fast a pace Got to put the candle out On at least one end Got to take a step back Every now & then There's a fog rising from the ground It follows me around from town to town It seems that I have lost my way This is not a place I want to stay I need a break just to clear my head I'm traveling a path I already dread Too much business not enough family I wonder what will become of me What am I doing here So far away from what I hold dear Need to find a little space & time Somewhere I can ease my mind
