We are a group of people who enjoy songwriting and then recording the songs. We do it for fun.
The Overtone Gang is a group of people who enjoy songwriting and then recording the songs. The structure of the gang is flexible and people may participate on one CD and not on another. It's their choice. Each person is allowed to pursue their own projects and come back to join the gang. Egos get in the way of music so we try hard to eliminate the reasons for it. 7 different people have been involved in the first three CDs. The Cycle of Life CD included a lot more people (16 in total). Our CD "Relations" had only four people. On our latest CD, Earth, there were three of us, Melanie Broussard, Buddy Trotter and Danny Liggett. The gang has written and recorded songs for 8 CDs. These were recorded by ourselves (no record deal). We duplicate our own CDs, design and print out the booklet and put the jewel case together. We do it for fun.

Story behind the song
A story about my grandpa. He was born in the 1860s and lived for almost 100 years. Most what is in the story is true. He had a shot of whiskey and a beer every morning, He drank nothing else the rest of the day.
Lyrics
My Grandpa.. Was a grouchy old man That started his day With beer, liquor and not much to say With steel cold eyes and a penetrating stare When he looked at you You knew you better have a care He never asked for much And he gave the same He always shot straight didnt play head games People didnt like him they didnt understand He was what he was and he was his own man Now they call me grandpa And Im proud of the name I only hope I never bring it any shame People say Im a lot like him Im mighty glad to call him my kin Born at the end of the Civil War Grew in times and ways long gone before He came to Texas out of Illinois I trip like that will make a man out of a boy He was a jack of all trades And a master of some When it came to working He was as good as they come He was a hard man from a hard time Not many today could walk that line Chorus Not easy to like and tougher to love More an iron fist than a velvet glove Im pretty sure he did the best he could He never really dealt on Couldve, wouldve or should He died at home in his on bed The family all around. Prayers being said He died he lived in his own way When my time comes I hope thats what they say
