Jinx Tha Konstrikta is an Edmonton bred MC, with plenty of experience on and off the mic. At the age of 14, Tyler Barnes picked up a pen and started scribbling down rhymes with no idea where it would take him. Born and raised around the province of British Columbia, was moved to Edmonton at the age of 17 with his parents. Living in a military family kept him victim to continuous change. By the age of 19, Jinx was born and started recording songs in a local hip hop studio, called Smashtbenz. Around the same time Jinx was introduced to another fellow underground MC by the name of Kaliz. This would mark the first, and not last crew, (Deuce's Wild) developed by the now solo artist. After the break up of Deuces Wild, Jinx found himself walking a new path leaving his former band mate to fend for himself. Within a year Jinx performed on stage for the first time opening up a show for local artists. The show had a small attendance and was nothing special, but would prove to link the young artist with a soon to be local female MC. After experiencing his first "groupie" experience with a young misguided girl, he fell in love. Jinx would go on to teach her how to rap and put together a rhyme. She kept the knowledge she learned and left him. She is now known as Nova Rockafella and currently living in New York, working with rap legend, RA The Ruggedman. After some time of grief and misbelief in the sudden change of events, Jinx rose once again with guns locked and loaded. Hitting up local open mics wasnt all he took part in. He found 2 hard hitting and skillful local underground MCs by the names of Graffiks (then Kade) and Jaze Dubya. "eXs" was born. The three began recording songs that would go on to be hidden gems. Classics in the debris, waiting to be released. With plenty of production by fellow Canadian artist Ira Lee, "eXs" would take the stage at numerous charity events, night clubs, and local hip hop events such as Hip Hop in the Park (2 out of 3 years). "eXs" proved to be a bust considering the high number of differences between band members and constant problems between the trio. Jinx decided to stay solo and focus on his own. Moving back to BC in 2009 would prove to be the smartest step he ever took. After a long battle with drugs and alcohol is now sober as of Feb 2011, losing a friend along the way, Rappin Ray (RIP) to an overdose. Jinx now dedicates all of his live performances to his dear friend and encourages the audience to stay safe while having fun and to stay in moderation. As of May 2011 Jinx Tha Konstrikta released his first full length disc, This Mixtape Will Self Destruct, and sold close to 100 copies in the first month. Now focusing on a second disc and getting a music video completed, Jinx plans to rise from the soil and dust himself off as a headlining act. With plenty of upcoming live shows around the Vancouver Island area and a taping on Urban Rush as a musical guest filmed in Vancouver, Jinx is on the path to success, finally.
