Story behind the song
Cathartic is a live performance by the Beyond Sonic Boundaries Orchestra featuring the beautiful voice of Jessica Hanel Satava. The work is in five movements: the first, third, and fifth movements are instrumental and the second and fourth movements feature voice. The two texts reflect the ironic dichotomy of human experience. Presented here is Karma Bleeds, the second movement. As always, I am very interested in timbre in this work, and the superb blending within this ensemble brings out an exquisite array of musical colors, enhanced by a sensitive ensemble performance and John Guth’s warm and lush recording of the piece. The work is dedicated to Phanos Dymiotis, a superb composer and consummate violinist who left us way before his time.
This track is featured on the double CD set Emerge on the Navona label.
Lyrics
Cathartic by Keith Kramer
II. Dichotomy 1: Karma bleeds
Karma bleeds from my eyes.
I am reaching, yet never touching.
Crimson colours of loss,
Drift through my skin.
Reflection of who I once was,
Who I never was.
From the womb to the grave, we are each other’s pain.
