Story behind the song
i was enjoying a brief reliving of my days as an old-school raver by pulling out all the old records and dj mixes a la josh wink, richie hawtin, even psychic tv. thus inspired by the minimalist sounds of this then-fledgling electronic music, i decided to create an addition to this legacy. here is one person's description of :flan: "the track seems to be a cross between harshly minimal detroit stuff, the kind of early 80s electro stuff that one would dance the robot to, and maybe a touch of ambient-ness. it sounds like an obscure track from the mid-80s that was misunderstood in the time it was created but which went on to be influential. there's something satisfyingly skeletal and not overly decorated about it." amazingly enough, that's exactly what i was striving towards, recreating that long-lost sound.
