Story behind the song
With this collection of sound pieces I've tried an approach that I often use in other works and other media. Methods differ in different mediums but objectives can converge .In my project 'Positive neglect', using spray paint and other materials on stolen, corporate, pre-printed canvas', I set out to de-commercialise and deface corporate imagery with as little active input as possible. Most of the resulting 'paintings' have little, or zero design and appear to have formed 'natural' or non-design finishes. This idea of avoidance of artistic action was an effort to reduce acts of contrivance and interference to try to break down commercial influences, combined with an effort to-out of long periods of inactivity- produce as near the dynamic primum mobile that sparks action from the 'unconcious'. That is, as close to the pure idea that can exist physically, before we interfere and adapt to our idea of 'correct' and/or balanced and/or recognisable and/or comfortable. These sound pieces are the results of often weeks of activity of sound generation on Logic Pro software using synthesised and sampled sounds. But the sounds, once saved, are then re-arranged very quickly and without active thought and design. Alot of chance decisions were made and saved without real purpose. Many of the results are not what I would consider 'acceptable' in areas such as production, arrangement and narrative, but it is hopeful this brings each piece closer to it's purpose and not a commercial product
