A music band. Poppy rock pop for people and animals.
A guy named Henning (that's his first name) writes and sings the songs in School for the Dead. That's primarily what one needs to know about this band. In fact, Henning, Just recently won the WRSI (one of Rollingstone's Top 10 Radio Stations) Singer Songwriter Contest. Yay. Members of School for the Dead have been in bands with and/or recorded with such luminaries as Mark Mulcahy (Miracle Legion), Chris Collingwood (Fountains of Wayne), Lloyd Cole, Joe Pernice (Scud Mountains Boys, The Pernice Brothers) and Tao Rodriguez-Seeger. Bands that members of SFTD have been part of include The Maggies, New Radiant Storm King, The Aloha Steamtrain, The Mammals, The Gay Potatoes, Lo Fine, The Figments, King Radio, Spanish for Hitchhiking, The Tea Lights, and Humbert. With that information, the savvy reader will have discerned that SFTD is based in the Northeast. Yes, that is the case. School for the Dead has shared the stage with Freedy Johnston, Mates of State, Of Montreal, J. Mascis, Fountains of Wayne, Martin Sexton, and Ivy among many others.

Story behind the song
That Lady.
Lyrics
In every town across the states, there’s a band on a stage And there’s always just one lady dancing And all these bands play one tune in a hundred saloons And there’s only just one lady dancing So some folks point their smokes And they crack a few jokes With the sweat on their beer bottles glistening But the girl doesn’t mind And the band treats her kindly At least they know someone is listening And the space on her face where her smile has been placed Has been subject to so much attention She’s aware of their glares and she’s glad that she dares To be judged under all their pretensions In her life, at her home Or at her job, she’s alone And it feels like the weekend is stalling And the days stretch and yawn Til it's suddenly upon her By Thursday the dance floor is calling She gets a ride into town and she puts a few down Yeah, she’s given up on the romancing And when Brian plays a beat, she jumps up to her feet Yes, she’s only just one lady dancing What’s her sin, why the guilt? Whats’s this scene that we’ve built? Is it all fashion? When it’s music we hear, is it music we fear in our hearts? So the band disappears and the crowd disappears And the walls of the club are dissolving And the girl spins around and she lifts off the ground Is she dying or is she evolving? And some folks ask her why as she sails across the sky If she knows, she just won’t say the answer And they wave and they shout “What’s it all about? Please tell us, one lady dancer” What’s her sin, why the guilt? Whats’s this scene that we’ve built? Is it all fashion? When it’s music we hear, is it music we fear in our hearts?
