Soloist. Songwriter/singer. ASCAP member. A NICE WITNESS FOR CHRIST There is an extensive interview of me done by Scott Crawford, at . Do not let the site name alarm you. It is an "adult-themed music and entertainment" site. It is not a porn site, and you will not get tagged for spam if you go there. Scott is a journalist of integrity, who asked pertinent and penetrating questions, then printed my answers verbatim. Both God and His son received much attention in the interview. REVIEWS: "Fancy keyboard playing is the backdrop for this positive and upbeat collection. Hackley's vocals are reminiscent of Burl Ives." Review by Brent Castillo, The Wichita Eagle, March 5, 2005. "world's wimpiest Christian rocker". Brother Russell Podcast; : INFLUENCES (a very lengthy list, ending with...) "and of course, Richard Hackley." "Yet the songs on the Worst of the Worst can be compelling in their awfulness. Songs like Richard Hackley's rabble-rousing, hackles-raising spiritual God's Backhand ("We're not talking about tennis or Ping-Pong!") "; "Richard Hackley... HUGE musical influence. And a real bad mofo live.";

Story behind the song
Dealing with prostate cancer myself, the topic has occupied my heart and mind since fall of 2004. When I learned that cancer is caused by cells that won't die, it struck me as such a counterfeit type of life. Something only the devil would find useful. Life that won't die is not supposed to happen yet in these physical bodies of ours. This song slowly developed from these realizations, plus, from seeing how cancer has bluffed its way into seeming invincibility. Initially I was going to read the text myself, then thought that having multiple voices would create a sort of "support group" atmosphere. Annika, Gracie and Ernest responded to my call for readers. It has been a joy intertwining their recordings.
Lyrics
It's a normal process, enabling us to live for many years. Cells in the human body divide. Old cells die out, replaced by the new ones. But some of us sometimes get a cell that won't die. This describes the start of cancer. Since our body is made of trillions of cells, this one stubborn cell goes unnoticed. It won't die, but what's worse is that it can reproduce another cell that won't die. Those two divide into four. And so on, until there's enough of those stubborn cells that it causes some sort of change in our body that we finally do notice. Cells that won't die their natural death. It sounds almost like eternal life. Except these cells kill the host, and thus kill themselves as well. Can God heal a person of cancer? Can He do it in an instant? Can He do it with pinpoint accuracy, no matter where the cancer has spread? As far as God's speed, we read in 1 Corinthians 15:52 of God pulling off some immense changes "in the twinkling of an eye." As far as God's pinpoint accuracy, we read in 1 Thessalonians 4:16 "...the dead in Christ shall rise first." This refers to a different circumstance, but the point is that God can target every individual in a specific group, no matter where they have spread on the planet. If He can do that with such completeness, accuracy and speed, He can also deal with every cancerous cell in your body, no matter where they have spread in your trillions of cells. He will not miss a single cell. God is the god of the living. Preserving life is His will. But the life living in cancer is life He is willing to kill.
