It all started last night when me and the band
Left Memphis bound for Mississippi
On the bus we were joking and laughing

There were flickering lights then the engine died
And we crossed over to the supernatural

That's when everything started getting strange

Like Hank and Waylon and Johnny Cash
Where highway 61 meets 49 we saw a man dressed in a black suit and tie
He said he saw us playing at a club the night before
He said you play some good country blues and rock and roll
But I can give you the fame that you've been looking for
All it takes is just a little soul
And that's what I'm here for

Well his voice seemed to hypnottize
There was a fire deep in his eyes
He pulled a contract from his briefcase
and he said 'all you have to do is sign
