Story behind the song
Lost a very good friend to the bottle. I hope he's ok....
Lyrics
He was shanghai'd by the bottle, sold into slavery in alcohol chains
Set down your drink. stop and think, of the days that remain.
99 bottles of beer on the wall for him to entertain like suitors down a hall
He'll take 2 cause he drinks 'em fast, then he'll stand up and fall on his ass
He's deaf as a stone and drunk to the bone
Have another drink, he'll tell you what you think
He won't hesitate to set you straight
You're full of sh** , that's all there is to it
He was shanghai'd by the bottle, sold into slavery in alcohol chains
Set down your drink. stop and think, of the days that remain.
He's drunk as a skunk and stewed to the gills on beers and shots, he don't take no pills
Beers and shots he says cure his ills, beers and shots it's a cure that kills
Jaegger,Tuaca, Turkey and Jack
can't find his baby won't bring her back
Stoli, Jose, Bud, and Johnny
all laugh at his jokes and tell him he's funny
He was shanghai'd by the bottle, sold into slavery in alcohol chains
Set down your drink. stop and think, of the days that remain.
He use to have good friends and treated them well, now he's alone and they can go to hell
His new best friends are bottles in bars and he can't understand how it got this far
First a man takes a drink, then the drink takes a drink, then the drink takes a man.
Geo, i'm beginning to think you are a genius. I've known for awhile you are a good player, but this is a side yet undiscovered by me. The lyrics are excellent and you deliver them VERY well...even those machine gun sections. I knew a guy just like this (maybe everybody does). This is GREAT songwriting!! Way to go my friend!
