Story behind the song
john:song #8 came about one night when nick and i decided to head out to swayze's just to hear some live music. once we got there we learned that the main band wouldn't be playing for another hour and whoever was opening for them wasn't worth listening to, so we went outside and sat in the back of nick's truck while i messed around with some chords and melodies that had i had been working on for about a week... after about 5 minutes, the main music part of the song, like the chord progression and melody, was finished. the lyrics were still in a rough draft state, and would continue to be so until sometime in the end of june after our june concert. the lyrics finally came into being during one of our practice sessions. i had been working with several ideas and decided to go with a simple verse/chorus pattern with repeated lyrics... easier to remember... anyways, the song is about living with different personalities, or extreme mood swings. some people may be confused a bit and think it's a love song or something like that, but it's not. it's about schizophrenia and mood swings and weird stuff that some of us go through, for example, the line "makes me think of when i'm you," i've heard people say that i've sung it wrong by leaving out the word with. however, in the context of the meaning of the song, the speaker is addressing his other personality and not another person.... schming doesn't do love songs...
Lyrics
i think i've got it figured out i hope i've got it figured out that i'm lonely without you with me and every little thing you do makes me think of when i'm you and i need you i need it dearly i thought i heard you say that you felt that way when the rain was falling in, on us i thought i saw you before, at my door when i heard you say; say goodmorning i think i've got it figured out i hope i've got it figured out that i'm lonely without you with me and every little thing you do makes me think of when i'm you and i need you i need it dearly i thought i heard you say that you felt that way when the rain was falling in, on us i thought i saw you before, at my door when i heard you say; say goodmorning to the sun and i hope my time is done cause i need you, to need me again ***guitar solo*** i thought i heard you say that you felt that way when the rain was falling in, on us i thought i saw you before, at my door when i heard you say; say goodmorning to the sun and i hope my time is done cause i need you, to need me again
