Story behind the song
Based on a novel by E.A. Poe, it tells a story about some fishermen sailing through the Maelstrom, a whirlpool that appears at regular times in the North Sea - Norway!
Lyrics
Climb with my guide on the mountain, so high “Nordland”, close to Norway’s sea << Stand up and look what is happening below… >> The old man quick said to me. What my eyes have seen it’s hard describe, Black water whirpools, the scene... << Listen what I have to say, ‘cause what I saw it’s not a game! >> And so his story soon began Talking to me like to a son. << Since we were young, me and my brothers we used to sail with a clock in my hand, we all knew the right way. Once upon a day, taking our way to home The wind suddenly stopped to blow and the sea began to grow. Red clouds coming near, all we felt was great fear, And the sky became dark, and a storm soon began. Fear in my eyes and anguish in my heart, Now the Maelstrom is nere there will be no return! >> - Solos While our ship it was eating by the sea I realized that we were not alone. So many objects were floating like us, The barrels, they didn’t fell down. And so I tied through myself the one of those inside my ship Cut the rope and let it all go When the storm ended came a sailing boat of fishermen, picked me up But to my story they don’t believed, and as them, you won’t. “The ways of God in Nature, as in Providence, are not as our ways”, that’s why we cannot understand where the myth begins and the truth has the end.
