Story behind the song
my grey company was written in about five minutes. the lyrics came out late one night while i was reading return of the king and had more than just that on my mind. i brought the lyrics with me to the recording session we had the next day and told matt and nick that i wanted this to be an acoustic song with maybe a piano part. we made the chord progression up right then and the basic melody. the entire song is a bit slow and melancholy, with just guitar and piano up until the chorus which adds bass and drums.
