A nostalgic song abut a dear friend
Shady Rosy is a songwriting coalition formed to produce a Country CD called Shady Country Lanes. The style we used varied from Country/ Blues/ songwriter
Shady Rosy is at it's most basic - Tony Laviola on Bass, and Louise Peacock on vocals.
They form a songwriting and recording team.
Story behind the song
This song is dedicated to a friend and neighbour, Carol, who used to live across the road from us, and who bought a little farmhouse way out in the country.
I really miss her, we used to do all the things I mention in the song and it was always fun taking time out of a busy day to go on some adventure with her. This song is for Carol.
Lyrics
You used to come over for coffee or tea
You sometimes came by just to visit with me....
We’d sit in the kitchen, and we’d talk for hours
Or stroll through the garden and look at the flowers ...
And you were my neighbour, and I was your friend
When you moved away, that all came to an end...
I wish I could see you, and sit by your side
And if wishes were horses, then beggars would ride
We’d go to the movies, we’d go out to lunch
We’d go window shopping, but not spend a bunch
We were always running, and never had time
for more than a moment, or one sip of wine
And you were my neighbour, and I was your friend
But when you moved away, that all came to an end...
I wish I could see you, and sit by your side
If wishes were horses, then beggars would ride
Now you’re in the country, in your little house
Your view is a river and sometimes a mouse
You go antique hunting, in musty old barns
You search for gold or Victorian charms.
And you were my neighbour, and I was your friend
But when you moved away, that all came to an end...
I wish I could see you, and sit by your side
If wishes were horses, then beggers would ride
If wishes were horses, then beggars would ride
