Story behind the song
These two songs were written by Brock Easterbrook and the music tracks were composed in Nashville by Jackie Cook. They were both recorded at Sun Studios in Memphis on a restored RCA ribbon microphone like the ones used in the day by Elvis, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison etc. and I ACTUALLY stood on the spot that Elvis did all his Sun Records recordings in the 50's (VERY cool experience...Let me tell you!). The recordings both have a distinct sound of the past and the echo and reverb from the original walls of Sun Studios are reminiscent of some of the older recordings that were done there. The first song "The Sun Never Sets in Memphis" is in tribute to the studio and those that have recorded there. The second song "But it should! " is a fun little song that blends a bit of the old country with the new flavour and was fun to record at this famous spot which was the birth place of Rock n' Roll.
Lyrics
Three men began their stories We stopped to hear them sing The short time they were with us True emotions were their thing Along-came the up and comers They couldn’t get it though they tried Had to work all that much harder Couldn’t bring back what had died (Oh) the sun never sets in Memphis Not even down Union Avenue It just hides behind the buildings Until I’ll meet again with you, Maybe they can’t really hear us or understand what they’d done How the days seemed all that brighter After they’d showed us what we’d won Didn’t forget, only misplaced them Till we needed them once again To show us where we came from Where we got to, how, and when We never really lost that feeling but somehow put it all on pause the music was once much clearer Yet they were rebels without a cause The memories that they left us We’ll keep with us till we die The years have come and gone now We’ll never have to say goodbye (Oh) the sun never sets in Memphis Not even down Union Avenue It just hides behind the buildings Until I’ll meet again with you, Elvis, Roy and Johnny started what became music’s very core We didn’t realize the impact Till they were gone for-ever-more… Down on Beale Street there’s a corner and if you listen through all those blues Three voices come by much stronger Now… we’ll give them their dues ...the sun never sets in Memphis Not even down Union Avenue It just hides behind the buildings Until I’ll meet again with you....
