Story behind the song
This song stems from a conversation I had one day. My brother-in-law was talking about his Dad, who had recently been widowed, and how he still had all the money that he and his wife had saved throughout their lives, but now he had no one to share it with. Sad, but true. I guess the message is to enjoy it while you can.
Lyrics
Here’s the weather report Chilly and gray Leaves full of colors You like it that way Don’t worry darling, This old coat is still warm But the colors are fading And the sleeves are all worn And oh, the kids called With some good news today Found work in the city They’re moving away Don’t worry darling They’ll visit us soon As soon as they’re settled In April, maybe June Oh, My love Remember the plans that we made I still have the pennies you saved Just for a day like today I still Keep all the dreams that we had Right here in my hands I’ll bring them to you As soon as I can Let’s talk like we used to Of England and Rome Of how, when we’re older We’ll be on our own Don’t worry I won’t get carried away It’s just that I love to imagine us living that way I brought you some flowers I’ll set them down here And hope that the wind Doesn’t carry them far Don’t worry darling I’ll come again soon The mornings get colder now So I’ll come in the afternoon
