VSG's ska hit! This is a very upbeat song with an impressive lead. Mike is rhythm guitar for the first half, then at around the 4 minute mark, Josh takes over on rhythm guitar.
This was recorded one week after Lifers, and it showed VSG's versatility. To this point, VSG had played blues, rock, jazz, and funk, but never a ska song.
Josh had come up with a song "Classically", and Mike wanted to try and make up a bridge for it. Remembering a riff he had came up with over a year ago, Mike played the intro rhythm part of what would be Paprika. It sounded good, but they could not really fit it into "Classically". Mike, still playing around with it, came up with the chord progression, and started playing it ska style (for some reason). Josh came up with a lead to go along with it, and both were impressed with it's sound. Mike suggested making the lead more upbeat, by adding the repeating note in it. After a few test runs, they hit record, and each improvised a solo. The result was VSG's first ska hit: Paprika.
