Story behind the song
I have a family member who's husband is in Iraq. I wrote this song for her and all the other wives who are left here to cope with every day problems
Lyrics
A Soldiers Wife V1 The kids were off to school clothes were on the line the letter that she wrote said we're all doin' fine Pappy had a birthday Mommas losin' weight so don't you worry honey we're all doing great Chorus But the weight inside her heart was getting heavy Each day she felt her courage slip away She knew this war could not go on forever A Soldiers Wife gets by day by day V2 She put a drop of perfume below the final line The X's and the O's said I'll love you for all time She hoped He wouldn't see the tear drop that fell Among the words of love that she always wrote so well Chorus But the weight inside her heart was getting heavy Each day she felt her courage slip away She knew this war could not go on forever A Soldiers wife gets by day by day day V3 She sat there at the table tryin' to hide her fear Afraid to read the telegram Her eyes filled with tears With shaking hands she touched it She felt so all alone It said.... Honey it's over and I'm comin home Chorus And the weight inside her heart was getting lighter Each time She read the note Her courage grew She knew Her love would now go on forever A Soldiers Wifes war was fin'ly through
