Story behind the song

I have always wanted a son.  Back When We Were Young is about how life
passes us by, and as it does, we find ourselves looking back more than
forward.  Our children have the future ahead of them.  As they go through
life, they will experience the same stages that we have.  The time will come
when our children will look back ‘just the way we have done.’  I’ve always
thought that having children would be a wonderful way of seeing yourself
as they grow up.
