Trash-pop, guitar rock and melodic miscellany.
Not so much a band as a bloke with a guitar and a laptop, The Smivets deliver a genre-bending blend of pop, rock, punk, prog and many other monosyllables.

Story behind the song
This started out as a rant against that type of artistic snobbery that seeks to belittle popular culture. A lot of johnnies like me love pop culture and get a lot of pleasure from it, and don't like being told it's worthless and that we should all go to the ballet instead. Then I realised that I'm guilty of the same attitudes myself - being rather sniffy about reality shows and so on, which actually many people enjoy even though they're not my particular thing. So my view now is, if people insist on liking stuff that you don't, don't spoil it for them. It doesn't hurt you so let them enjoy what they want. As my wife's Aunty Claire says: "If it's what you like, you should do it, cock". Amen. For the guitar nerds you might like to know that all the guitar parts were recorded with the same guitar, through the same amp, and with the same settings on the amp. The amp in question is a Marshall 2150 and it's a magical box, entirely controlled by telepathy - you just sort of think of the sound you want and it just makes it, without any knob twiddling or anything. How does that work? It doesn't edit out bum notes though - as you can plainly hear.
Lyrics
Which of us will benefit from what you say, now? Your pearls of wisdom have leeched all the joy away, now. Everything that I hold dear Dismissed with a lofty sneer Its value made to disappear But you offer nothing in its place Well I wouldn't be so quick to close your mind There's beauty in everything for you to find With all you say that you've achieved I simply would not have believed Your thoughts could be so preconceived So easily, and your vision so blind So blind Now your idea of culture isn't mine So don't waste your pearls on this ungrateful swine. It's just your personal preference So don't assume it's obvious And force it on the rest of us Just keep it shush And we'll get along just fine. Just fine We'll get along just fine.

Neat bass introduction. Cool guitar tone and "magic box" amplifier. Especially like the lyrics and message, well done.

Great punchy, strummy, creamy guitar sounds all from the same amp settings. Like you say, your Marshall amp is a magical little box. I want one ! What mike did you use on the amp, or did it go 'direct' to your recorder ?. Nice song and I agree with your sentiments.
