Trash-pop, guitar rock and melodic miscellany.
Not so much a band as a bloke with a guitar and a laptop, The Smivets deliver a genre-bending blend of pop, rock, punk, prog and many other monosyllables.

Story behind the song
Created for the CBC Acoustic challenge, June 2010. Thanks once again to the inimitable Jude for getting us all together and setting another fiendish challenge! This is just 4 tracks - bouzouki, guitar, voice and drums. With tastefully arranged bum notes in all of them. This goes out to all those who travel the world for a living - especially the guys at my firm who end up in the furthest corners of the planet trying to fix things. We all love it really.
Lyrics
Here we go on another risky escapade. My travel plans are made: I don't know when I'm coming back. I've packed a clean shirt, passport and a credit card Thinking it can't be hard To get the problem done with. And I must be too old for this now, I'm feeling the miles in my bones. And I'm trying to work out how I ended up so far from home. I've been living on my wits so long it's easy like Learning to ride a bike: You just sort of slip into the rhythm With a lack of planning tantamount to lunacy. Still they form a line to see Me pull the rabbit from the hat again. And I must be too old for this now, I'm feeling the miles in my bones. And I'm trying to work out how I ended up this far from home. And it's a reckless feeling Making it so appealing I'm blown like a paper in the wind Sometimes I think I'll never land. Just when you think you're done, whoopee! another trip. Another rip-rollicking rock and rollercoaster ride to the world's arse. And feeling like you've jumped without a parachute Isn't a substitute For relaxation And I must be too old for this now, I'm feeling the miles in my bones. And I'm trying to work out how To get them to carry me home. And it's a reckless feeling Making it so appealing I'm blown like a paper in the wind Sometimes I think I'll never land. And it's a reckless feeling Making it so appealing I'm blown like a paper in the wind Sometimes I think I'll never land.

This was perhaps my favorite song at the last challenge. It has it all...EXCELLENT lyrics...which would seem nearly impossible to phrase comfortably but you do it with ease. Great instrumentation and skillful playing...(it's obvious you love to play your instruments)..and a really nice mix and production. Clean, clear vox out front where they belong. A long song that never for a second gets redundent or boring and has a fresh, creative sound. I've never heard a song of yours that wasn't good. This one is perhaps the best so far.

Steve, this is such a great tune in every way. Your songwriting is top notch! A deftly played bouzouki there, as well! :)

I'm always impressed that you can nail so many different genres! Quality writing, excellent lyrics, great instrumentation. Ever listened to McGuiness Flint? Great band from way back...this reminds me of them to some extent - their members/writers Gallagher & Lyle used to work for Apple Records...so you're up there with the best ;)
