Story behind the song
Based on Celtic myths and legends, Slaine is a comic strip in 2000AD. Outcast from his village, the story begins with the barbarian warrior Slaine MacRoth seeking his fortune and adventuring the Land of the Young, accompanied by his dwarf sidekick Ukko. Slaine is gifted by the Earth Mother Danu with the ability to Warp Spasm, where he transforms into a twisted raging goliath; a 'hero harness' must be worn to stop his body tearing itself apart. In this state Slaine can destroy whole armies, about which the chronicles state: "And he thought it not too many." After many adventures, including fighting the main villain The Lord Weird Slough Feg, Slaine eventually becomes the 1st king of Ireland and the Horned God, uniting the various tribes. He abdicates his position to successfully seek revenge on Moloch, who raped and murdered his only love and wife Niamh.

Yeah I love this - great melodic riffage over some really interesting staccato chords - I particularly like the bit that comes in at 1:20 but it all just cooks. And the slightly ghostly intro tune playing through it all works too. Good stuff Stoob - now I've got to dig my old 2000ADs out of the loft to read the Slaine strips again. Cold in that loft.
