DESCENDANTS OF ASAPH Asaph was the first and chief musician in the early days before the temple was built in Jerusalem. By all accounts (1Chron 16v5) he was a percussionist and drummer and together with Heman and Jeduthun formed the first worship band to accompany the choir in praise and worship of God He wrote a number of psalm lyrics under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. His lyrics are very down to earth and he likes to say things exactly as they are! 'Descendants of Asaph' follow in his tradition and is a virtual band dedicated to making music and song unto the Lord and presenting His challenge to the world today through parables in music. Lyrics
RETURN TO THE DUST Return to the dust O sons of men Return to the earth From whence you came Return to the dust O sons of men Mother earth waits To receive you again To receive you again Lord You have been our dwelling place Through the raging of the storm A solace in the land of gloom When the garment of hope has been torn Teach us to number the days of our life To seek wisdom with all of our heart Give us joy and relief in return for the years Of sorrow spent hid from Your sight Lord of the Ages, Timeless One Who can recount all Your days? You never grow old with the passing of time You're immune to the onslaught of years So teach us to number the days of our life To seek wisdom with all of our heart Give us joy and relief in return for the years Of sorrow spent hid from Your sight In life or in death May the beauty of God As a garment Encircle our lives Man is a flower In the morning he blooms In the evening He withers and dies Return to the dust O sons of men Return to the earth From whence you came Return to the dust O sons of men Mother earth yearns To caress you again To embrase you again
