Hard-driving progressive violin rock over a 6/8 beat
PANARCHY is the vehicle for performing the more progressive rock songs written by Scott Gordon. The band was started by Scott Gordon (keyboards/vocals/guitars)
Welcome to PANARCHY - proof positive that the craft of songwriting - intelligent, poignant lyrics, and innovative but sonorous harmony of voices and instruments - is not dead. PANARCHY is for me what UTOPIA was for Todd Rundgren. A real band for the band, in-between my own acoustic solo performing and recording.

Story behind the song
I wrote this song at the 500th anniversary of the Columbus voyage to America. It's written from the viewpoint of the Native Americans who were overrun by the superior firepower of the invader. I re-wrote and upgraded the song years later to reflect a more general idea about being invaded in any place or time. You may recognize the feel inspired by Kansas (Portrait - He Knew) using the same kind of intense driving beat.
Lyrics
ACROSS THE WATER 1992 Denver CO, 2008 Costa Rica He comes Across the Water From a land enslaved by kings With hearts that are filled with lust for gold Taking all our strongest warriors Put them on the longest voyage For all the slaves that can be sold -Somebody stop them -Do you know of a way? -They're killing our children -We've got to get away He wears a heavy sword He'll chop your hands and feet He says that God is on his side You'd better take the children And keep a warrior with them You'd better find some place to hide -No understanding -Darkness and pain -Nothing left standing -Tell me - what will remain? It's coming around again There's more armored soldier men So few are left to take them on But every life is sacred And so this gets my hatred Until these killing fields are gone -How far we have fallen -How can we survive? -But the Spirit is calling -To be Free and Alive Across the Water - 1992, 2008 - Scott Gordon
