Jangly pop with a dark twist. A tale of destructive obsession.

Trash-pop, guitar rock and melodic miscellany.
Not so much a band as a bloke with a guitar and a laptop, The Smivets deliver a genre-bending blend of pop, rock, punk, prog and many other monosyllables.

Story behind the song
If you're wondering, it's a bouzouki. I made the mistake of saying I liked the sound when we were in Greece one year, so Christmas day guess what? It does have an amazing range of sounds, but it's been languishing in a corner waiting for a vehicle. I didn't need any effects on it - just a stereo mic pair straight in - not even reverb. It's just how it sounds. This track also features a truly horrible organ tone, of which I'm particularly proud.
Lyrics
She was a girl who Wrapped around her finger Everybody she knew And everyone who met her. She was all things bright And beautiful, Beautiful so beautiful And though she couldn't quite Remember me I could not forget her. Never understood before The power of charisma. All she did was take the floor And I became her prisoner. Then she spoke to me And I was lost, I was lost, I was lost Then she spoke to me. And I was lost, I was lost forever. How could I believe That we could breathe the same air? Why couldn't I see why they were laughing? But now the world where I belong Has turned its back on me there. Both doors are closed And I'm left stranded here with nothing. Nothing. When I received her note, I Knew just what the news meant, I had been a toy, oh Kept for her amusement. Shackled ever since She spoke to me Spoke to me, she spoke to me. Ever since that glimpse Of her forbidden world I could never enter.

Ah great...I've found another song! Must have missed this one before. Excellent Brit Pop/Rock with a twist. I think your talents are wasted, you really should send your songs to publishers and try and strike a deal. All your songs have that something "special" that makes them both creative, different and an instant hit. I'd be very happy indeed if all my material came out like your songs! This is another perfect job.

This is great Steve, and your bouzouki sounds wonderful, giving the song a rich and different sound. Oh yes, that is a particulally nice 'cheesy' organ sound. Reminds me of a Vox Continental organ. Love that sound. Another top song Steve with a very full and professional production. Five stars all round.

nice layered melodies Seth, the percussion and guitars lock on, and dont let go the change at 2:40 gives a nice lift with the stalled build and acoustic break. NICE!
