Trash-pop, guitar rock and melodic miscellany.
Not so much a band as a bloke with a guitar and a laptop, The Smivets deliver a genre-bending blend of pop, rock, punk, prog and many other monosyllables.

Story behind the song
In case you think this sounds a tad retro, I should explain that this truly was written in 1973, and was actually the first song I ever wrote that got played in a band. I've pretty much left it unaltered and I think it's how I would have intended it to sound if we'd had proper instruments. Thankfully there are no surviving recordings of us belting this out on a 3-drum kit and a Watkins Rapier. It comes with impenetrable teenage lyrics (I still don't know what "time and the traveller my teacher and torturer holds me to witness his passing" was supposed to mean) and the obligatory bass solo. Like, wow, man.
Lyrics
Cloudy my eyes as sit in my room In the gloom of a November day. And feeling the pressure of ceiling and walls, My thoughts again turn to the road. And happy my memories of journeys ago And travellers I met on the way. When singing aloud with my home on my back I thought myself lord of the highway. Wanderlust takes me when Spring comes again To the verge of the Great Northern Road, And hitchiking south from the start of the day I go where the instant decides. And Time and the Traveller, my teacher and torturer Holds me to witness his passing. Til the sun tilts to the edge of the west And I rest to await the next day. Clouds in the east Sunrise red sunrise Clouds in the east Ice touches her face Clouds in the east Red sky in the morning Clouds in the east I can't let the day waste. Up on the road a hundred miles pass before noon. Clouds form black horsemen that hunt on the white shifting field. I stand at a crossroads, hoping that someone will stop, While the sun tilts from the top of the sky to dusk. And I travel on. I travel on Til I tread the returning road I travel on.
