If I Was A Tree

This song my friend Toby wrote. I helped him record it and sang most of it. He did all the instruments but for the little bit of guitar.
indie spiritual real creative dark christian fingerstyle emotional personal deep honest alt tuning capos
Artist picture
Progressive finger-style guitar, with emotional melodies and raw, honest lyrics.
I invite you to amble through my world of raw, emotional and honest song writing. I hope it might strike a chord in you and be a little more like a flower among the thorns of unsigned amateurs here on SoundClick. Though I indeed am a unsigned amateur myself.

Lyrics
Music and Lyrics by Toby Flournoy If I was a tree would you cut me down and build a home? Or would I end up feeling more like a house? Or would you climb to the top and stare off into the horizon and see the world in a different light? Or would I become a splinter deep in your hands something you just can't seem to get rid of no matter how hard you try? Would you find rest under the shade of my limbs? Or would you break my down into sawdust and scatter me like ashes out into the ocean or from the highest cliff that your sad frame could brave? Would you tear off my bark piece by piece strip me naked as the day you were born again see parts of me I never wanted you to know exist? Would you turn me into paper and write a letter to a long lost lover or maybe a suicide note or fold me up into oragami I'll become a papercut that just won't heal. Would you climb to the top full of ambition loose your grip and fall to the ground or climb my branches and let go just to end it all? Would you cut me open just to count my rings well I'll tell you right now I'm feeling pretty old these days I'm so thirsty for water come and make me clean I'm sick of these rotting branches and roots that never seem to dig deep enough to take hold and provide steadier footing With knife in hand would you carve letters into my flesh watch the sap seep out or burn me down to ash? Would I keep you warm as I gave up the ghost Would I trespass into your lungs as I turned into smoke? (watch me rise as spark chasing after the Heavens?) Would you cut me down and carve me into something beautiful and new the old is gone I've taken on a brand new shape I was once a tree but now I've been given a brand new name
