A laid back trancey love song to God
Ambient electronica, chillout dance beats, ethereal vocals or occasionally harp. Feel free to livestream/record any of these in internet church services.
Abbess was the composer in residence for the Visions creative multimedia collective and church service in York from 1991-2010. She then went to work for Leeds Minster before moving South to Winchester Cathedral. Now she is working for the Transcendence Trust. A few years ago she added some free downloads of settings of ancient songs used in the mornng prayer liturgy.
Abbess' music ranges from classically influenced chill-out pieces through trip hop to departures into the land of techno. Feel free to use the mixes and/or words in a non-profit church service situation, and let her know if they liked it!
Story behind the song
This song was the result of our musings about
worship songs. We wanted to write one that was different, but inspiring. We took our inspiration from the Celtic tradition, where every small daily event is turned into worship. And as a result, rather than using "churchy" vocabulary, we took everyday events
as the text for our love song to God.
Lyrics
Like the fountain in a garden,
Like a candle in the dark,
Like the treasure in a bank vault,
Like the gardener in a park,
These things, You are to me.
My God, You are to me.
Like the incense in a burner,
Like the lover to his wife,
Like the pool within a desert,
Like the medicine saves a life,
These things, You are to me.
My God, You are to me.
Like the wall around an orchard,
Like the pilot to a plane,
Like the music in a love song,
Like the life within the vein,
These things, You are to me.
My God, You are to me.
Like the diamond in its setting,
Like the wineglass at a meal,
Like the light within the lantern,
Like the fruit within the peel,
These things, You are to me.
My God, You are to me.
Like the sunshine in the Heavens,
Like the face within the glass,
Like the sparkle in a snowflake,
Like the dew upon the grass,
These things, You are to me.
My God, You are to me.
Like the guardian to an orphan,
Like the hearth within our homes,
Like the map to a lost walker,
Like the perfume in a rose,
These things, You are to me.
My God, You are to me.
