DESCENDANTS OF ASAPH Asaph was the first and chief musician in the early days before the temple was built in Jerusalem. By all accounts (1Chron 16v5) he was a percussionist and drummer and together with Heman and Jeduthun formed the first worship band to accompany the choir in praise and worship of God He wrote a number of psalm lyrics under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. His lyrics are very down to earth and he likes to say things exactly as they are! 'Descendants of Asaph' follow in his tradition and is a virtual band dedicated to making music and song unto the Lord and presenting His challenge to the world today through parables in music. Story behind the song
A song within a song, one part is the metaphor and the other it's counterpart in real life. Draws heavily from chapter 18 of the book of Jeremiah in the Bible.
Lyrics
THE POTTER'S HOUSE Just a piece, an ordinary piece Of clay in the potter’s hand Being shaped by the craftsman Fashioned to his master plan They didn’t know their days were numbered Through the writing on the wall Couldn’t see the warning signs Of their impending fall When the vessel of clay Was marred in the potter’s hands He reworks it, he rebuilds it Modeled to a different plan The sage will never lack in wisdom Nor the priest be short a prayer When the prophet conceives the wind The lion leaves his lair Go down to the house of the potter Learn the lesson of the potter’s wheel Go down with your eyes wide open To see a truth revealed Buy a vessel made of clay Take it down to the Potsherd’s gate Brake it there into pieces Metaphor of a peoples’ fate The cold streams flow where the ice has melted The sun has smiled on the mountain tops Ancient ways so soon rejected The east wind scatters dust Go down to the house of the potter Learn the lesson of the potter’s wheel Go down with your eyes wide open To see a truth revealed
