Story behind the song

I wrote this song back in 1996 and I wanted to pull something out of an old hat and finally get music behind it. I did do a little restructuring on this song - back then I was really green about song writing and I still have a lot to learn.

Lyrics

I found our wedding picture lying on the floor
With a note that said she didn’t love me anymore
It said be careful of the pieces unaccounted for 
And the words on that paper just cut me to the core
It took but a moment then it hit me like a wall
The glass on the floor wasn’t what she meant at all

Walk careful around the bedroom and also in the hall
Those are the last two places my heart began to fall
It broke when the memories hit and if you care at all
You’ll be careful not to step on what is left of this broken heart


I looked in the bedroom the closet was all cleaned out
The tissue on the bed told me she must of cried out loud
But there was no one to hear her cry cause I was not around
I let her down for the last time and now she’s left town
Then halfway down the hall another piece lay there
A shiny band of gold that was broke beyond repair
