Story behind the song
I composed this song, when I had my Androids Band, in 1965. It was inspired by the band, after the band had broke up. I Waited 'til '69 to try and record it, as I wanted to add the 3rd verse about landing on the moon? So, I waited until we had, successfully. Then started the recording a week later. It was recorded entirely by me, in my bedroom, again, doing all parts, and vocals. It was recorded in the same fashion as Blu Guitar. On two, 3 1/2 " Reel to Reels. Sound over sound, and fixed. The tape hiss, I tried to use to my advantage here ... by blowing in the mic, (over top of all finished instruments and vocal tracks, at the end), while turning the tone control knob, back and forth in 2 to 3 sec. intervals which gave the effect of a phase shifter. And when none actually existed or were available back then. Totally accidental sound, from experimental procedures on the song. It took 17 months to fix, again with the help of my friend at the crime lab, Mi. State Police. It has never been attempted by any band, all these years, until me and Jim Ritchie, tried to perform it at our last performance. Which was a month ago, June 5th, 2007. It contains, Bass drum, Bass guitar, 12 string, Two elec, leads, main vocal and one harmony vocal. Again, all me!
It did get a little pirate station airplay, locally for several months. And Thank God for computers, today! I think?Otherwise this song, too, would be lost, and locked away in almost irretrievable history. I could not get any record companies, interested at the time.
