A song describing birds and their different plumages found in any garden.
We are four semi-professional muscians/composers who got together recently to get over the winter blues. We gained access to good recording facilities near where we all live and decided to release Mike Cockett's compositions. Back in the 1970's Mike made several intrumental/childrens stories which were never published due to his wife being ill.
In January this year his eldest son Miles transferred these cassette tracks onto CD. This resulted in the "WINTER SUNSHINE" CD which contains 8 instrumentals and 5 songs. Some of these tracks are included on our site but due to the age of the cassettes the quality is not to our standards however the copyright of the tracks is available for outright sale from $300 each. Tracks from the "ROLLIN'" CD are from $500 each. The tracks are in demo form requiring your own individual signature. We supply the tunes, you make the money from them at a small cost for their purchase. If you are interested, then contact us and we can issue a legal contract transferring the copyright from us to you. All we want to do is right the songs for you to preform.
Story behind the song
One of Mike's friends took up his suggestion of a poem based on garden birds in a fashion show setting. Mike decided to put it to music.
Lyrics
These are the birds we saw today,
wearing fine feathers for their Garden Display.
What a wonderful turn-out, what a pleasant surprise.
Birds in bright plumage, a treat for our eyes.
Sparrow's grey hat was frequently seen.
Chaffinch and Brambling much coloured extreme.
Marsh, Willow and Coal-tit, all dressed so much alike,
apart from their black caps, for Coal has a ribbon of white.
Chorus:
If you are lucky and quiet, as quiet as a mouse,
you'll see the Garden Display from any house.
Magpie's dinner suit, very smart all agreed.
Pheasant strutted proudly in multi-coloured tweed
Robin's tight-fitting jacket, hooded his red face and chest.
In his brown-spotted waistcoat, the Thrush was attractively dressed.
"My suit is smarter," Blackbird did declare.
Kingfisher's blue was the prettiest there.
Blut-tit's yellowy jumper went right down past his feet.
Jenny Wren's speckled tail was cocked and ever so neat.
Chorus:
If you are lucky and quiet, as quiet as a mouse, you'll see a Garden Display from any house.
Goldfinch looked stunning in brown, yellow and buff,
red on his face with a snowy-white ruff.
Nuthatch chose a blue-grey, and a pale shade of brown,
his hat was edged with jet black,
and blue on the top of his crown
Then came the Wagtails, Pied, Yellow and Grey,
late on parade for they'd come a long way.
Swallow swooped gracefully by, wearing a black tailored coat,
a red dickie-bow tie adorning his navy-blue throat.
Look out for these birds on some bright sunny day, and you'll undoubtably see their Garden Display.
But not if the cats have their way,
for cats will make birds fly away,
so keep all your cats in that day.
