Story behind the song
This was written and recorded on December 29 and 30, 2001. It was conjured up while listening to some Social Distortion and trying to figure out how they constructed their songs. I used what I perceive as a Social Distortion template to arrange the song. I figured out some chords and laid them down to the drum machine. Everything else, bass, lead and lyrics followed. The line Gasoline smelling rag coat imbecile just appeared in my head and gave me a direction to pursue the rest of the lyrics. I used to work at a gas station pumping gas while in high school and still have vivid memories of working in the winter. While Im not stuck in gas pumping mode, I wish I would have done better in high school, and so that feeling also influenced the writing.
