Story behind the song
I wrote this song a month to the day that my wife and I met, but I was just to afraid to ask her to marry me. It wasn't until 2 months later, after writing the song that I asked her to marry me. Hypothetically!!!??
When I was playing at a club one night she was there with us. For the first half of the night I must have had a real serious look on my face, because she kept asking what was wrong. I would tell her nothings wrong, I'm just tired. Inside I wanted to ask her, but I was afraid she would turn me down and I couldn't deal with that kind of rejection. Meanwhile all night long she was thinking this is it, he doesn't want to see me anymore, he's gonna tell me 'well it's been fun, gotta go now'. So during one of the breaks she sat me down at a table and said, look just tell me what's going on. So I said, 'If I were ask you to marry me? What would you say? Hypothetically?' She looked at me kind of strangely, paused then replied 'I'd say Yes.' To which I replied 'Then I'm asking?'
