Don't Matter How Good She Looks
Be careful what you wish for.
Voodoo DeVille plays uptempo, good time blues, jump, boogie, and swing.
Voodoo DeVille is a six piece band working out of the Philadelphia area. The band was formed in 1998 by a group of like-minded guys who enjoyed the blues and enjoyed playing them even more. While Chicago blues is our starting point, we've ventured into jump, boogie woogie, early rock 'n roll, and rockabilly. We count many of the greats as our idols and influences but we don't feel bound to stick strictly to one style or one way of playing. If it's fun to play, then it's in our set list. It's never failed - when we have fun, our audience has fun. And that's why we do it.
Story behind the song
Inspired by something a friend used to say - seemed like it needed a song
Lyrics
Now this is a little lesson in life for all you men out there who sometimes might be a little intimidated by a good lookin' woman. You know, when youre afraid that you might not be good enough for her. So let me tell about a little lesson my daddy taught me. Maybe it will give you a little hope in your next encounter.
Well, I went to the club on Saturday night
I saw a little girl who was out of sight
She was so good lookin 'bout to blind my eyes
I wanted to have her for my prize
But just in that moment it came to me,
She was much to fine for a guy like me
There you go, I myself was intimidated. I mean, why would she even consider spending time with somebody who looked like me. I mean I was broke too and maybe just a little bit chubby. Fat, broke, and ugly - what chance did I have?
My ego was deflated, it was way down low,
I even turned around and I started to go
But just then a thought popped into my head,
It was something I remembered that my daddy said
He said son I want you to listen to me,
I got somethin to tell that will set you free
It don't matter how good she looks
It don't matter how good she looks
It don't matter how good she looks
It don't matter how good she looks
Theres always a guy out there somewhere,
Who just can't wait to get away from her
Well, I was rejuvenated. I was rededicated. I would not be dissuaded. That fine lookin' woman would soon be persuaded. She was about to find out what it was to meet a real man.
I jacked up my nerve with some 99 proof,
My confidence was flying, it was up through the roof
I said "Hey sweet mama, you look so fine,
Can I bring you a glass of some rose wine?"
She turned to me and said "I like your suit,
And on top of that youre even kinda cute."
Man, I had hit one out of the park. I could tell she took a fancy to me. Of course, I was hopin' to get to know her fancy, if you know what I mean. I knew I had to strike while the iron was hot, and fellas, my iron was hot all right.
I said "C'mon on baby, lets go for a ride
In my Cadillac convertible right out side."
She said, "I'd love to go but not too far,
'Cause I usually ride in an imported car,
With tinted windows cause my skin is fair,
And the top put up so I don't mess my hair."
Okay, so maybe she was a little particular. Maybe she was a little focused on herself. Thats okay, she was fine lookin'. I'd be a fool to pass on this girl. She was the girl of my dreams. I was sure I could overlook a few challenges in her personality.
Well, I took her by the arm and we started to walk,
But all that woman did was talk and talk and talk
She strutted along like she was queen of ball, And checked herself in every mirror she saw
She said "Can you imagine how fine it will be, To spend all your time just thinking of me?"
Damn! I've heard of high maintenance but this woman would make Mr. Goodwrench cry like a little baby. Lord, what did I get myself into? They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I wished to hell she wasnt beholdin on to my arm so I could get the hell out there. Man, I should've listened to my daddy!
It don't matter how good she looks
It don't matter how good she looks
It don't matter how good she looks
It don't matter how good she looks
Theres always a guy out there somewhere,
Who just cant wait to get away from her
And I guess thats me!
