Country Blues

Voodoo DeVille is a six piece band working out of the Philadelphia area. The band was formed in 1998 by a group of like-minded guys who enjoyed the blues and enjoyed playing them even more. While Chicago blues is our starting point, we've ventured into jump, boogie woogie, early rock 'n roll, and rockabilly. We count many of the greats as our idols and influences but we don't feel bound to stick strictly to one style or one way of playing. If it's fun to play, then it's in our set list. It's never failed - when we have fun, our audience has fun. And that's why we do it.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We love playing live. We play regularly in the Philadelphia area, particularly around Chester County. We have a couple of places we play regularly, such as Weso's and Appetites On Main in Exton. We otherwise fill our calendar with community fairs, private parties, charity events, corporate events, and so on.
Your musical influences
When the band first started, we were going for the Chicago blues sound, covering songs from Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Jimmy Reed, B.B. King and so on. Over time, we've expand our repetoire into other forms post-World War II music such as boogie, swing, and early rock 'n roll, influenced by artists such as Big Joe Turner, Ray Charles, Smiley Lewis, and Chuck Berry. Among today's contemporary performers, we count Kim Wilson, Duke Robillard, Delbert McClinton and Roomful of Blues among our favorites and their influences can be heard in our original songs.
