Nobody gets out alive...
blues boogie philadelphia rockabilly swing
Artist picture
Voodoo DeVille plays uptempo, good time blues, jump, boogie, and swing.
Voodoo DeVille is a six piece band working out of the Philadelphia area. The band was formed in 1998 by a group of like-minded guys who enjoyed the blues and enjoyed playing them even more. While Chicago blues is our starting point, we've ventured into jump, boogie woogie, early rock 'n roll, and rockabilly. We count many of the greats as our idols and influences but we don't feel bound to stick strictly to one style or one way of playing. If it's fun to play, then it's in our set list. It's never failed - when we have fun, our audience has fun. And that's why we do it.

Story behind the song
This a slightly different take on the blues -- kind of an existential view, I guess.
Lyrics
Have you heard the news, don't nobody escape the blues Have you heard the news, everybody got to pay their dues It's every man's natural condition to live with a blues affliction Some people sedate their mind just to endure the daily grind Some people sedate their mind, walkin' through life half blind Tryin' to avoid the pain, their life goes down the drain Livin' with a blues affliction, don't matter 'bout your ambition Livin' with a blues affliction, could be a doctor or a politician It's every man's natural condition to live with a blues affliction Some people they turn to God, and let Jesus be their lighting rod Some people they turn to the Lord, and look to heaven for their reward Heaven may calm your fears, but this world is still a vale of tears You got to keep rollin' that stone, your purpose might seem unknown You got to keep rollin' that stone, don't worry you ain't alone Keep rollin' and don't ask why, just keep rollin' til the day you die Livin' with a blues affliction, it's more than a simple addiction Livin' with a blues affliction, it's just life in this world by definition It's every man's natural condition to live with a blues affliction Livin' with a blues affliction, there ain't no question about your mission Livin' with a blues affliction, there's no alternate disposition It's every man's natural condition to live with a blues affliction
