SL is more than your cookie cutter Hip Hop act. They consistently bring heat that's battle-oriented, positive, introspective, and smart with a creative vision
Stubborn Lights is a Bay Area Hip Hop group that is ready to explode on the scene with the most refreshing Hip Hop to grace the spot in years. "T@X!" (simply stated as Tax) is the emcee of the crew who struts brash, informative, coastally ambiguous flavor over rugged, neck snapping beats produced by the crew’s man behind the music, Right Engle. Heavily influenced by John Coltrane and other Jazz greats, Right’s beats seem to stem from a place where razor wire and sunbeams coexist in harmony, making each track a definitely unique experience. Backed by the Bay Area’s own DJ Shameless of KZSU fame, Stubborn Lights truly refuse to not shine. With original, introspective, and pensive tracks, they are sure to leave you open and asking for more. Not your cookie cutter Hip Hop crew, SL is not afraid to take a holistic approach to Hip Hop and invites their listeners wholeheartedly into their world where Hip Hop pays homage to all it’s influences all the time. With songs like "Fiction," (featuring Bay Area poetess Akweta Colbert) an almost literal audible breath of fresh air that forces the listener to exhale, and "Mr. Radio Man," a hard edged exposé of the stale, monopolized world of Corporate America's commercial radio, the Lights cover the full spectrum of what's missing in Hip Hop today.

Lyrics
Just when I thought I’ve seen it all Heard it all Bore witness to All the coniving, violent ignorant sh*t we do I meet you, Mr. "Don’t Believe In Fair Play" Mr. Lie and Cheat that’s F*cking up our airwaves Monopoly breeding Feeding through the FM The type of sh*t That makes a loyal man hate his best friend Impressing all of our children Who think it’s cool To copy and imitate your audio sess pool The power of a fool is too often overlooked When he’s immitated By a thousand followers that’s hooked The book does not exist, But I’m gonna author An expose called "The Garbage That They Fed My Daughter" I father a harder dream than bling bling Amidst this cream thing I exist to rep my soul by any means And I’ve seen distinctly what you fear That one day we’ll get a mind and recognize That the Channel isn’t Clear Mr Lowry Mays, [CEO!!] Radio’s a unicycle One track mind lacks vision like John 9:7 But aint no pool of Siloam Shallow men drown When corporations dictate How we rate our sound! I’m gonna pound too hard on the box To make this trash stop Break the antenna off I see through the payoff!! "Indies" got control of the jocks That wanna spin me - Mr. Radio Man your airwaves offend me. [CHORUS] "There Can Be Only One!" "Monopoly" "On Ya Radio" "Money Mad Pirates" "Cold Gettin Paid" "Hip Hop Does NOT Live" "On Ya Radio" Tune your frequency to this emcee Cuz to me FCC means F*ck Clear Channel!!! emphatically It’s a tragedy, a travesty A murder one with amnesty, But killers of the radio Are working for his majesty, I’d rather be knee high deep in human feces It’s worth it!! Than listen to the weak playlist Your label purchased! Ya doin our communities a major disservice, Cuz 4th grader’s singin Hennesey songs At church service! What you serve us is straight “useluss” And counterproductive But it’s all part of the “businuss” We’re just numbers, right? So f*ck insight We’re eatin up the bullsh*t From a manufactured appetite It’s only off the hook if we bite And the bait seems too good to pass So we inspire the ratings!! Allowing them to play things My brain names monotonous How the f*ck can 15 songs comprise the hotlist Top 40's barely more than 10 if you look close Cuz corporations got your stations locked In between coasts - Oh - y’all didn’t know?? I’m a breakdown who the rats are: Chancellor, Clear Channel, Infinity, and Capstar Or should I say the AM/FM Inc. They merged!! It’s Murderous to radio just Like Ja and Irv, Cuz don’t think these radio moguls work alone, They supported by knuckleheads That grab a microphone! Sellin Thug Life and gauging ya worth By metric value, Extravagent whips, rims, iced limbs, and how you- Created a jaded status quo followers bow to You’re only "bout it bout it" Cuz the radios about you Look, the facts are this - Radio makes me sick! ClearChannel.com do a search I bet your favorite’s on the list, 1200 plus stations!! 67% Of Top 40 - Who they represent?? Not the public’s interest It’s music incest Keep It in the family, right??
