a ballad about a 5 year old girls life from her mothers perspective.
I write about everyday life with soft spiritual undertones. Well ok maybe just a little demented humour thrown in there.
Story behind the song
Sadly this is a story about my wifes childhood. Her parents were split-up and he continued to make promises to her that he never ever kept. But like most children she never wanted to believe he'd never come back.
Lyrics
My little girl was five years old she sat and waited by the road
With a smile upon her face and both hands on her suitcase
You see her Daddy called this afternoon said that he would be home soon
It's been six months or more since he walked out the door.
After she waited a while I noticed that she lost her smile
So I told that she should go play she said no Mommy thats okay
Chorus
I know Daddy's working late thats alright I'll just wait
And it won't be long my Daddy's gonna come, Daddy's gonna come
She waited there seven hours or more I cried watching from the door
As he tore her world apart I could feel her breaking heart
You see he, he only called her twice since then but I really can't remember when
He's never once kept his word goodbye's the last thing that we heard
So I told her honey come on inside as I wiped away the tears I had cried
She said Mommy no just wait and see I know Daddy he's comin for me
Chorus
I know Daddy's working late thats alright I'll just wait
And it won't long my Daddy's gonna come
Daddy's gonna come
Bridge
I came and took her by the hand hoping that this day would end
She looked up and she cried and said Mom my Daddy lied
I know Daddy's working late that's alright I'll just wait
And it won't be long my Daddy's gonna come, Daddy's gonna come, Daddy's gonna come
Why didn't Daddy come
