My 'cover' / re-imagining of the classic by Andrew Gold. I've given it the 'Major Snagg treatment'. There's a touch of 'Twang' and instead of saxophone solos, as in the original, I've added some interesting guitar solos.

Major Snagg is the invented name of the 'band' that perform all my own musical creations. (songs and instrumentals). I play guitars, bass, rudimentary keyboards, harmonica, and sing. Melody has always been important to me... lyrics and guitar solos have to say or communicate something. I create musical worlds that I hope that you dear listener, will also want to explore and live in for a few moments...or longer if you feel that way inclined.

Story behind the song
Well, what can I say? ... this is one of those songs that are rightly called a 'classic pop song'.
Lyrics
Never Let Her Slip Away (Andrew Gold (c) 1978 I talked to my baby on the telephone, Long distance I never would've guessed I could miss someone so bad, yeah I really only met her 'bout a week ago But It doesn't seem to matter to my heart I know that I love her I'm hoping that I never recover 'Cause she's good for me And it would really make me happy To never let her slip away I feel like a kid with a teenage crush On a school date I feel like the lead in "Romeo and Juliet" yeah I'm a little bit dizzy, I'm a little bit scared I guess I never felt this much aware That I'd love her I'm hoping that I'll never recover Cause she's good for me And it would really make me happy To never let her slip away I really only met her 'bout a week ago But It doesn't seem to matter to my heart I know that I love her I'm hoping that I never recover yeah She's good to me And it would really make me happy To never let her slip away Mmmm I love her I'm thinking that I'll never recover She's good for me I know it's gonna make me happy To never let her slip away Oh I know it's gonna make me happy To never let her slip away

Great version David. Tricky to do, especially as the original was piano led, but you pulled it off with aplomb. Bravo!

Highly creative version of this old classic. I really like the vocals and the way they are mixed. It now has more of a rock vibe with the guitar work you've added & a lot more punch to it.

I never heard original so I listened to that first. You did a great job on the claps right out of the gate. It’s a quirky song. And I hear all the changes. I really like what youve done with this. Sounds like some tremolo ? On guitar. Your vocals are excellent on this which I always thought Andrew gold was a very good singer. Overall you did a very good job on this I think you have passed the audition. I like your more guitar centric version better. And I saw JD souther played on the original. He is like Waldo he shows up everywhere.

Right, here's the thing...the chords ...firstly...there are lots of them. Just like 'Yesterday', there seems to be a chord change for almost every new word of the lyrics. I must admit to putting a capo on the first fret to make them slightly easier. As Andrew Gold's version is piano lead, I made this a guitar song through necessity. It makes for a different overall sound because of it. One of the rhythm guitar parts is played on my Yamaha Pacifica Nashville tuned 9 string guitar. It was great fun to record...hope you enjoy it.
