I've always liked this song from The Cars debut album from when it was first released in 1978. Someone recently said that some of my songs and arrangements reminded them of The Cars. So, I decided to actually record a song by The Cars...here it is.

Major Snagg is the invented name of the 'band' that perform all my own musical creations. (songs and instrumentals). I play guitars, bass, rudimentary keyboards, harmonica, and sing. Melody has always been important to me... lyrics and guitar solos have to say or communicate something. I create musical worlds that I hope that you dear listener, will also want to explore and live in for a few moments...or longer if you feel that way inclined.

Story behind the song
I've enjoyed playing along to the this for years but until now have never actually got around to recording a 'cover' of it. I had to re-learn some of the guitar parts properly as it had been a while since I had played it. Then I struggled a bit with the drum part. I think that this version (my 2nd. attempt), is as good as I can get it with my limited drumming skills. This version is at a slightly brisker tempo than my 1st. attempt. So, here you have it...enjoy the nostalgia.
Lyrics
My Best Friend's Girl ... Ric Ocasek (The cars (c) 1978 You're always dancing down the street With your suede blue eyes And every new boy that you meet He doesn't know the real surprise. (Here she comes again) When she's dancing 'neath the starry sky Ooh, she'll make you flip When she's dancing 'neath the starry sky I kinda like the way she dips. Well she's my best friend's girl She's my best friend's girl But she used to be mine. Elliot's Rock-a-Billy thing You've got your nuclear boots And your drip dry gloves Ooh, when you bite your lip It's some reaction to love, ove, ove. (Here she comes again) When she's dancing 'neath the starry sky Ooh, she'll make you flip. When she's dancing 'neath the starry sky I kinda like the way she dips, she's my best friend's girl she's my best friend's girl, But she used to be mine. Guitar solo: ... You're always go dancing down the street With your suede blue eyes. And every new boy that you meet, He doesn't know the real surprise. (Here she comes again) When she's dancing 'neath the starry sky (here she comes again) Ooh, she'll make you flip (Here she comes again) (Here she comes again) She's my best friend's girl but she used to be mine, but she used to be mine, (Here She comes again) She used to be mine. extra guitar fun to fade-out ...

Nice version. Little Rick O. Great guitar work and nice touch with the keys. I can remember sitting at a bar at penn state and a college kid was telling me the cars were way better than the Beatles. The cars had just become big. And I said if anyone knows who they are in five years we can have this conversation. And alas here we are 40 years later and you doing a great cover. Lol

Here's my 'new and improved', version of this fab song by The Cars. I'm much happier with this, my 2nd. version. Hope you all enjoy it.
