Story behind the song
The older we get the more we're shocked by what we see in the mirror. There comes a point for every horse where they are to old to be ridden. I try hard to postpone that point.
Lyrics
Time is not always tender
Winter doesn’t always surrender
Old broken bones tend to ache in the rain
And the cold just serves as a reminder
Rivers always follow their courses
No matter how you try to pretend
We’re just old horses
There was time that I pulled twice my weight
And nobody questioned my value
Half of what I know now is obsolete
And the rest not sure I understand
Spending too much time thinking backwards
Old faces that are starting to fade
In youth we all lived for the moment
I swore I’d never pine for glory days
The tracks in the back head due west
I don’t know how far they go today
Been so long since I’ve rode them
Sometimes habits just fade away
Caution now in running the wild field
Eyes always on the weather changes
A picture from a clear-eyed youth
Looking into the mirror - How strange?
