D Camp's fictitious chamber orchestra. Composed or re-arranged by D Camp. Enjoy.
I am Mr D Camp. My hobby is composing and arranging tunes using music software. Ever since I could listen to music, I always wished I could re-arrange it. I did not have a group of musicians. Now in the computer age with music software I am able to listen to what I hear in my head. The 178th street chamber orchestra is my fictitious group of virtual musicians who sometimes collaborate with other fictitious groups such as the Bathgate Avenue Boys Choir or the Beneath-the-Expressway Rhythm Kings. I compose original tunes. I re-arrange existing tunes. I try to keep these as short as possible. Two minutes is an epic. Some are easy listening. Some are experimental. I do this for my personal enjoyment but I hope you enjoy too. Thank you.

Story behind the song
Let me introduce the fictitious wind quartet. Ned - flute Gus - oboe Giles - clarinet Willie - bassoon and special appearance by Bennie on French horn Willie's cousin Bennie from Bensonhurst, Brooklyn appears courtesy of the B Train Brothers Brass Band. Bennie showed up late for the session. The B was experiencing signal problems. You can actually hear him arrive in the studio before the third movement. Some notes about movement III. Atonal. Without a tonal center. All 12 tones in the chromatic scale are played before any tone is repeated. Therefore not C major or A minor or whatever. Hard for Western ears to listen to. Some long and boring and confusing notes about movement IV. Modes. This is an eight bar blues. Each bar uses a different scale of notes. The simplest scale is the white notes on the piano starting with C. Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Ti Do. Sequence of whole tones and half tones. E to F and B to C are half tones. This is what we call the Ionian mode. Each bar uses the next of the 7 modes. The 7th is Locrian mode which is the most difficult for our Western ears. I ran out of modes so the 8th goes back to the Ionian. Google wikipedia musical modes if you're still interested. The intro uses the whole tone scale. No half tones at all. This wind quartet also performs Denise_178 a cover of the doo-wop classic by Randy and the Rainbows. And Scheden_178 (named after the hometown of German composer and flutist Johann Joachim Quantz) where Ned and Gus perform a duet.
