Trash-pop, guitar rock and melodic miscellany.
Not so much a band as a bloke with a guitar and a laptop, The Smivets deliver a genre-bending blend of pop, rock, punk, prog and many other monosyllables.

Story behind the song
Nothing to do with illness, or 2017 save that that's when it was written, this is one of my hobby horses - certain rock stars from the 60s who were elevated to godlike status, earning a level of adulation which in my opinion considerably exceeded their actual talent. Many are still revered as mighty poets and artists of legend, when really they were just good looking. Inspired by a visit to a famous cemetery in Paris, there are enough clues in here to identify who it's about.
Lyrics
Oh my acolytes, you have brought me here To Pere Lachaise Enshrining my undeserving place among the greats We were as gods back then You called us prophets When all we truly were was easy on the eye All my appetites brought me here To Pere Lachaise Perfecting the romantic tragedy That spared me from mediochre age Yes I was true to my own daemon But you can't deny That death lends a certain cachet Oh my acolytes you have sought me here In Pere Lachaise Creating, with gum sculptures The legend that never really was Who knows, if I'd survived, Would they have given me a Nobel prize?
